A recent survey reported in the FinancialTimes revealed the five skills rated as most important on graduates by leading employers.Soft Skills are at the top of this list and they are vital not just for the hospitality industry.
The third and final year at the B.H.M.S. Culinary Academy, leading to a Bachelor Degree in Culinary Arts, builds on students’ existing culinary competencies and experience to deepen and hone practical, leadership and business skills. Before the students can progress to their final industry placement and graduate positions, they have to do a final assessment and demonstrate their skills and creativity by preparing and serving a three-course menu.

On June 20th, B.H.M.S. celebrated a new class of graduates at the Schweizerhof, a traditional 5-star hotel located right in the Old Town of Lucerne, with a ceremony gathering 80 students from different nationalities. On February 17th a major world-scale event of the hospitality industry took place at the Intercontinental in Kiev Ukraine. 380 guests from 21 countries of Europe gathered in one place in order to identify future trends of the hospitality industry, and project its development for the next couple of years.

As part of the seminar in Sport and Event Marketing, the students had the chance to witness, firsthand, the management of one of the biggest one-day sport events in Switzerland this year, and the most important football match for Switzerland: the World Cup Play-offs between Northern Ireland and Switzerland.

This month, the students of the MSc in International Hospitality Business Management participated in a Specialist Seminar focused on Luxury Brands and Services Management.
It’s a 3-day seminar in which the participants were introduced to the Luxury sector to learn Branding principles, key elements and techniques, as well as, to accumulate the necessary Marketing and Brand Management knowledge by working on individual and group projects.
After two weeks of term break, some students returned to B.H.M.S. for one more academic term, and together with them, new students arrived to start their study journey.

Last summer, B.H.M.S. upgraded its culinary facilities by adding a state-of-the-art training kitchen to the existing production kitchen.
