Do I need to learn German before I join B.H.M.S.?

Daniel: As you are coming to the German part of Switzerland, it’s really useful to have some experience with the language, but this is not mandatory, since B.H.M.S. provides language classes as part of the course, and if you have time and dedication you can learn and improve your German skills, which is going to be useful for your future and for the internship experiences.

Is it mandatory to attend the Orientation Day and why?

Stefan: Attending the orientation day is quite important, it’s an opportunity for the students to get to know the staff, the school, rules and the environment. There is a tour in the city of Lucerne which is really good for the new students and there is also a special Welcome Dinner at the City Campus which is a very nice experience.

What kind of activities are there for the students who study in Lucerne?

Jean-Loic: All the students have the opportunity to play football, basketball and practice yoga, for example. Lucerne also offers many options of entertainment such as cinemas, museums, bike and boat tours.

Do you have classes on the weekends?

Aamir: On some occasions due to the public holidays, classes may be rescheduled on the weekends, however this is very unlikely.

How B.H.M.S. students spend their free time on the weekends?

Jean-Loic: We like to party on Fridays usually, and on the weekend we go around Switzerland, basically everywhere since the public transport works perfectly. We are just 40 minutes from Zurich, 1 hour from Bern and 1 hour from Basel.

Are the B.H.M.S. campuses far away from each other?

Stefan: I would say that this is actually one of the unique things about B.H.M.S., that the main CIty Campus and all the other buildings are in the center of city and within a walking distance of 5-7 minutes from each other, right in the middle of all the action in the city, being close to the main train station, the cafeterias, shops and restaurants.

What kind of meals does B.H.M.S. provide to the students?

Jean-Loic: The restaurant at B.H.M.S. provides a big variety of meals, with halal and vegetarian dishes and there are also special food days such as Chinese or Italian Day.

What is the best part about living in Switzerland?

Jean-Loic: As a Culinary Student and as a French, I would say that cheese and chocolate are the best reasons to come to Switzerland! Besides, the quality of life is incredible. Everyone is respectful and very friendly.

Do we need to wear a uniform at B.H.M.S.?

Aamir: B.H.M.S. provides the culinary uniforms and the students bring their own business suit composed of white shirt and a variety of ties.

What is like to do an internship in Switzerland?

Daniel: Internships in Switzerland are very cool but they also going to be tough. Normally you will work 8 hours a day and you will learn and progress a lot during this period.

Are the internships paid? If yes, how much is the salary?

Stefan: Yes. There is a standard gross salary for all the internships in Switzerland whether it’s in the Culinary or Hospitality field. It’s 2190 Swiss Francs, and honestly this is more than enough for students to survive and save some money as well.

How is the weather in Switzerland?

Aamir: Switzerland has 4 climates, and students get to witness every changing landscape. My favorite is Spring because that’s when we got to see all the blooming flowers and the greenery nature.
