Entrepreneurship in the Hospitality Industry - integrated to the B.H.M.S. study programs

The history of the Hospitality industry is based on entrepreneurship and innovation, what it’s essential to business success these days, in any sector.

Customer needs are changing at a fast pace and business have to adapt to them. In the last few years, a lot has changed in the Travel & Tourism industry thanks to technology that played a major role in improving the customer/guest satisfaction.

Studies in Hospitality Management can be applied in many different industries, and the students can find job opportunities in different organizations and companies that are not always related to Travel & Tourism. In fact, those who have a background in Hospitality Management have the chance of developing and shaping skills focused on entrepreneurship needed to start up and run a business.

B.H.M.S. alumnus from Ukraine

Vladyslav Mozharov, a B.H.M.S. alumnus from Ukraine is a great example of a successful entrepreneur. He completed an MBA Degreein 2014 and he is the Owner and Managing Director of CharterClick based in United Arab Emirates. CharterClick is a B2B online platform to rent a yacht in Dubai.

I knew a while ago that I wanted to start my own business», says Vlad. «But finding a genuine business idea was not too easy. My MBA studies at B.H.M.S., as well as my internships in Switzerland and Dubai, gave me a sense of the real world and the risk and rewards involved in launching my own business.

At B.H.M.S. we encourage entrepreneurship through different approaches during the undergraduate and graduate programs.

For example, as part of the module "Creativity in Business", in the Bachelor Degree of Global Business Management, our students have to develop a new product and participate in an investor pitch reproduced in class.

The class is divided into groups and every group has to create and develop a business plan for a product/service. Afterwards, they have 4 minutes to present their ideas to the judge who will choose the best one and reward the winner students. This procedure boosts students’ professionalism and gives them the opportunity to develop more their presentation and communication skills which are important in the Hospitality industry.

Internship B.H.M.S. Lucerne

In the third year of the Bachelor of Culinary Arts, as part of the module “Creativity and Entrepreneurship,” the students have to come up with a fusion/new menu concept and run an event for two days at a partner restaurant to present and sell their dishes.
